Our Story


RG Keats & Co

   

RG KEATS & Co is a family owned and operated beef production enterprise. 


Bow Park is 100 kms north of Julia Creek in North West Queensland, Australia.


We run Beefmaster seed stock for the production of our own bulls.


Each year there are approximately 100 sale bulls that are ready for delivery from November - presented as rising 2 year olds.

Richard Goodwin Keats

Born in Charters Towers on 23.1.1927

Died on 29.11.1991 of polycythemia vera contracted 1974


One of the great achievers of the northern cattle industries providing inspiration of many who knew him.

He was years before his time. Many of his ideas and their application helped raise the benchmark for successful cattle breeding throughout the North West.


  • Attended All Souls School - Charters Towers
  • Captain of 'Page' House at All Souls
  • Jackerooed at Brunette Downs
  • 1953 and 1954 were spent touring and working in the United Kingdom, Argentina and in the United States where he did a course in animal genetics.
  • He worked for, and was greatly influenced by Tom Lasater - the founder of the Beefmaster Cattle. www.lasaterranch.com
  • Imported the first Beefmasters into Australia - "Charlie Pride" and "Don Cotton" (pictured below)
  • Designed the first overhead cattle drafting system using triangular block gates. (pictured below)
  • Moved to Bow Park in 1955, bought Shilmalier in 1961, Gleeson 1986 and Pialah 1988.
  • Councillor of McKinlay Shire Council 1970 to 1982.
  • Survived by wife Flora and children Guy, Tom and Linda.
